We are constanlty updating our load data with new loads!īe Alert: Publisher cannot be responsible for errors in published load data. Check back often for more reloading data. XTP, I believe Hornady is recommending at least 1.235' and maybe its listed in their latest load manual. That slight difference will make no difference in accuracy. 005' from the 'dummy' length that passed the 'plunk' test.
NOTE: Do not use the 230-GR TMJ RN loads with Gold Dot HP maximum loads should be used with CAUTION. For an added element of safety, decrease your handloads by another. Be certain that all bullets exit the barrel watching the target for each bullet strike is the best way to know that the load produces sufficient gas volume for a longer barrel. Both of these were handloads in the 850-ft/sec range. XTP (right) expanded nicely when fired into water from a 5' barrel. Thoroughly test this small sample in your firearm in slow-fire mode, insuring that you achieve proper feeding and ejection. The XTP bullet has fed reliably over the long-term for me in all of my 1911 pattern pistols and never missed a stroke from the P-220. If loading for a carbine or rifle, choose from among the loads developing the highest handgun velocities and load just a few rounds. Not all loads may be suitable for use in a carbine or rifle chambered for this cartridge. When Hornady acknowledged that this was a possiblity with some chambers and suggested to back off by a 1/2 grain or so and seat the bullets slightly deeper, but not with an overall length of whatever they suggested at the time, problem seemed easily solved. case: Speer primer: CCI 300 test firearm: SIG P220 barrel length: 4.4" IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: These loads were developed and tested for safe use in HANDGUNS. case length: 0.898" trim-to length: 0.888" max cart. You could tell if you over charged a case PP because it would be 12gr and the case would be close to full. Well if that is the case, It is easer to double charge with bullseye then power pistol because it uses so little of bullseye compaired to PP. otherwise it is best to pick a powder that will overfill the case if double charged as an added safety measure. It's only bad juju if you want to fire at a specific power factor and have the least felt recoil. 230 gr xtp accurate 5 oal manual#
I tried the Hodgdon reloading online manual and the only 230 gr bullet listed that was close was the Hornady FMJ FP starting at 3.7 gr OAL 1.200'. Got home, sat down, and tried to find data on loads for a 230 gr FMJ RN. In fact you can likely triple charge some powders and not notice it in the gargantuan cases like 44 mag, 45 long colt, etc. From the praise that Clays receives here I purchased a bottle. I went with a 1.120' OAL which is a bit longer than Hornadys min OAL.
Though I hadn't started reloading anything yet. So, before seeing this thread, that's where I'd set the Hornady seater die at. The Hornady 7th Edition Reloading manual for these bullets calls for a C.O.L. I found 2 virtually equal accurate loads, but went with the higher load due to wanting it to feel closer to my carry ammo in my m9. First off, the bullets I'm planning on using are Hornady's. All have been more accurate in my 45acp's than any plated, fmj, or lead bullet with lube. I was told to use data for the 124gr Hornady XTP bullet as this is close to theirs in shape and size. ALL 77 gr 84 gr 85 gr 90 gr 100 gr 105 gr 110 gr 120 gr 125 gr 130 gr 135 gr 140 gr 145 gr 146 gr 148 gr 150 gr 158 gr 170 gr 180 gr 230 gr. I have used bear creek bullets for a long time but have used others such as bullets bullets bullets, and J&L bullets. I know too many people who tried to use a fast powder for a cheaper way to load magnum performance ammo (44 magnum for instance) and got into trouble when they inadvertantly double charged it and didn't notice it. Almost any 200 grain moly bullet has been my most accurate bullet. otherwise people may be barking up the wrong tree and may run into pressure problems. The light bullet slow propellant, heavy bullet fast propellant only really applies to USPSA.
